Good News Bad News

Good news: The A/C is fixed and we're cooling off.

Not too bad news: It was the thermostat and the repairman only charged for a service call.

Really bad news: The Marine swerved on a wet road and hit a telephone pole at about 50 MPH early this morning. (The call every mother dreads.)

Good news: He's physically just fine. Thank heaven for seat belts and air bags. And power poles that hold up the live power lines long enough to avoid serious injury.

Bad news: The car is probably totaled. The telephone pole definitely was, and according to the A/C repairman, the road was still shut down for repairs to it.

Good news: The cop who responded did not issue him a ticket.

Sad news: This was his dream car and he probably won't be able to find another like it in the short term. He had only made one payment on it so far. I know it's just a car and Tyler being safe is the most important thing. Still, it makes me sad for him.

Pain in the butt news: We may have to scramble to get him back to base on Saturday. He does have rental car insurance, so hopefully that will kick in. Will know more when he wakes up and starts the claim process.

Exhaustion news: I finally got to bed at 5:30 AM and then up again at 8:30 AM for the A/C repairman. I may not make much sewing progress today if I don't get in a nap.

Life is never dull.

  4. So glad that the only thing "hurt" is the car and not your son!

  5. Thank goodness he's safe! A car is, ultimately, just a car.

  6. My son had two crashes and lost two cars before he settled down and took driving seriously. Thank Heaven for seat belts is right. Live and learn.

  12. Oh man.

I got my life's first call like that on Monday - my 7 yo had torn off the nail, skin and flesh down to the bone of his middle finger on his right hand. At the hospital they had to cut off 2 mm of the bone to make sure the flesh would re-grow.

Life is never dull - I'm happy your Marine is well.

  15. A safe son, and a new job vs a crumpled car and a fried A/C? Plus, bonus material from the stash? I'd say you are way ahead of the game. Happy Dance time! A.

  20. I'm so glad your son is okay. Too bad about his car, but better that it was wrecked and not your son! What a roller coaster you're on. Hope you get some rest.

  21. Mercy sakes, you have it going on there girly. I am glad the AC was nothing super expensive to fix. Very glad your son is okay!

  22. What an alarming thing to happen! But the only thing that matters is that your precious son is safe.
On the AC front, almost nobody has AC in this country so we never have to worry about it going wrong (we just get very hot when the sun shines). What we dread is the central heating boiler conking out - ours does regularly in the winter.

  23. Oh my goodness, I'm glad to hear he's alright. I'm sorry to hear about his dream car, but it served him well in keeping him safe.

  24. I'm sure Tyler knows he has to report this to his 1st Sgt or the equivalent in the Marines!

Hope all settles down and glad he is OK

  25. Wow. I'd have one terrific headache. I'm glad your son wasn't hurt. Your attitude will get you through this.

  26. Oh no! I was just logging in to congratulate you on your new job. Poor Tyler! But at least he is unhurt, and cars and A/C are fixable however unpleasant the process may be.

Sending good thoughts your way this week.

  28. Holy crap! I'm so glad he's OK, and no one else was injured. This is the car he and his uncle just put the new transmission or other major part in? That's so sad.

And on the upside: JOB!!! (Yay) and AC was not expensive to fix. All good things.

  29. Oy! Thank God he's okay, but still, what a terrible way for both of you to spend the night.

PS - congratulations on the job!!!

  35. Really really happy that your son is ok, the ac was cheaply fixed and you have the job.I am sure it will be a lead in to a long term position either there or at another firm. Having a paycheck again will be such a stress reliever as will not being responsible for all the maintenance issues/bills as a woman on her own has to deal with in a large house. It is just wonderful that you got the position and can get on with your new life that is out there waiting for you to be part of it. mssewcrazy

  36. So glad your Marine is okay. Could have been a lot worse, I guess. Life has a way of handing us curve-balls and I reckon it's so we don't get too complacent. You have a great attitude and are a positive role-model for your sons.

  37. How utterly stressful! So glad your son is ok and that you are keeping it together. And you are very sanguine, all things considered. I would probably have lost my mind over that series of events...

  38. What a crazy week. I am so glad he is OK. Get some rest as soon as that AC guy leaves. You deserve it!
